CD Cover Redesign

Mitski. Be the Cowboy,
Dead Oceans, 2018

Tasked with redesigning a CD cover for an artist of my choice, I worked to create album art for indie artist Miski. Her album, “Be the Cowboy”, focuses on feelings of loneliness, heartbreak and exhaustion, ideas which bleed through in both her written lyrics and sound.I chose to illustrate an interpretation of the album’s title, which Mitski said herself is not referencing the cowboy we would think of today, but a representation of confidence and, for her, a break away from societal norms.

Using digital painting techniques, I illustrated a cover that conveys loneliness and a sense of calm. The setting and style is meant to be a continuation of the art from the music video for, “A Pearl”, but in this context is used to represent the album as a whole, not just the single track, and is meant to create a consistent setting and character for the story.

	Book cover design

Edgar Allan Poe, The Cask of Amontillado, 1848
This project’s focus was to take a beloved story that is often taught in school and create a cover for it that would appeal to the intended audience. Edgar Allan Poe is a prolific American writer whose short stories teach young readers about symbolism and its importance to storytelling. The Cask of Amontillado is one that I had experience reading in middle school, and it’s plot stuck with me through the years. A story of deception, madness, and revenge; I worked to create a cover that would touch on these themes in a way that would encourage students to take interest with what’s inside.

To do this, I chose to depict the two main characters in a flat, graphic novel style of illustration. Making use of dramatic lighting, I intended to portray the drama of the story through the balance of light and dark.

Clothing brand projectgeo. 2020The goal of this project was to design a clothing brand with a focus on my interest in screen printing and environmental ethics. After extensive research into the causes and effects of the fast fashion industry, I created brand guidelines and three shirt designs that touched on points brought up within my final research essay.

I was inspired by both collage and screen printing techniques while creating these images, as well as taking inspiration from early evniromental campaigns.

I worked to create pieces that spoke to the topic of enviromental awareness by showing both nature and man-made materials. Being that this brand would be something personal and be produced on a smaller scale, I made the designs themselves with a limited color pallate, to use less silkscreens and ink per print.

	Interactive museum app
OMOR, 2020OMOR, or Orlando Museum of Rock, is the name of a fictional museum created for a group project meant to showcase our UI/UX design skills. After researching different apps, museums, and topics, my groupmates and I created OMOR, an interactive museum that includes exhibits on both old school rock and newer genres of rock, punk, and metal.

	Personal identity
.geo, 2021I chose to create my personal identity system around my previous clothing brand project, taking the first three letters of my last name and using that as my logo. I wanted to take the time to experiment with a different style than I’m used, doing so by warping type and playing with gradients and blur effects.
